Antispam Policy Exceptions

A new mail feature has been added! Now you can specifically block or permit senders by IP, email address, or domain at the SMTP level. This means that you can use greylisting but let facebook emails skip it. Tired of backscatter from the same mail servers? Add their IP addresses to the block list and never see that email again. Friend ends up on an RBL but you want to receive email from him anyway, add his IP to your allow list. You can now be more strict in your policy requirements but permit the people you normally email to skip the policy checks. More email, less spam. The way it should be.

To manage your Antispam Policy Exceptions, log into your No-IP.com account and click Mail then Configure for your domain. Click the Antispam Policies button then Policy Exceptions.

Antispam Policy Exceptions apply to all inbound mail services including POP3, Forwarding, Backup MX, and Reflector.

Linux 2.1.9 Client is now available

No-IP has released an updated version of the Linux Dynamic Update Client (DUC). A potential vulnerability for buffer overflow has been discovered in the current Linux version of the client. The buffer overflow vulnerability can possibly be exploited to compromise a user’s computer for the execution of arbitrary code. Older versions of the Linux client are affected too. This vulnerability can be exploited if attacker tricks a user to connect to a fake update No-IP dynamic update server.

No-IP recommends all users running the older version of the Linux DUC 2.1.1 through 2.1.8 to upgrade to the 2.1.9 version and re-run the configuration wizard. This is done by invoking “noip2 -C” at the prompt.

The newest version is available on our website or by following this link.

NS3 and NS4 IP address change

In effort to expand our infrastructure and provide even better service to our customers there has been an ip address change to two of our nameservers: ns3.no-ip.com and ns4.no-ip.com.

The IP address change for NS3 and NS4 are:

ns3.no-ip.com 69.65.5.106

ns4.no-ip.com 72.5.169.6

These changes primarily effect our No-IP Squared customers, however for any Managed DNS customers who are using vanity nameserver names this may effect you as well.

The old address will continue to provide resolution while customers migrate to the new address.  We will be disabling the old address on April 8, 2008.

This is part of our planned network upgrade at our Oakland and Chicago data centers.

Have questions regarding the change? Contact our support team now.

Upgrades!!!

Well its been a while since our last blog entry so we wanted to update everyone.

WE GOT UPGRADES!

We are proud to announce that on 11/27/2007 that we replaced both of the air filters in the heating units to our office. Yes it was a big deal and we are happy to say that no employees were injured during the upgrades. Also on a much less impressive note, we added two additional DNS servers to better serve our customers and increase reliability.

With 2008 around the corner we are hoping to update the blog more often. We have some big things on the way for 2008. Just to give you a hint, it begins with an “A” and ends with a “T”.
